REVIEW: Irish folk band The Dandy Horses

The new track from Irish folk/rock band The Dandy Horses, ‘Tales From Hard Luck Town’, is an energetic and upbeat song which will really make you want to tap your feet along.

Listen to the track here:

The song is built on the solid foundation of the band’s perfect harmonies and beautiful melody motifs.  The song, which is also the title track of their most recent album, features a strong beat throughout and the perfect combination of folk inspired guitars and intricate harmonic melodies. The band’s sound has strong nods towards one of my favourite artists, Cara Dillon. Their sound is clearing an amalgamation of the band’s musical talent, their creativity and their sheer passion for creating polished and well produced folk inspired music. The band have clearly taken inspiration from bands such as The Fleetwood Mac and this track is the perfect musical honour to true musical virtuosos that have gone before them such as The Mamas and Papas.

The band, consisting of two girls and three boys, has managed to find the balance between and indie folk/rock sound whilst hanging right on the edge of the mainstream music scene. They have already had radio play on Radio Ulster and 6 Music and I am fairly confident that this track will propel them even further and deeper on their musical journey. I look forward to hearing what they come out with next.
