Album review: Deborah Crooks – ‘Little Bird’ – Out Now

Deborah CrookesWith a light, Americana touch and a way with a simple but effective melody, ‘Little Bird’ is the latest album from California songwriter Deborah Crooks.

Her distinctive voice, raw and emotive, is enough to carry through the 32 minutes these ten tracks take – there’s something pure about it, untouched and with depth. Meanwhile, the production captures each acoustic guitar strum perfectly.

‘Show Me’ and ‘Committed Lines’ are both the openers and the highlights of the album, but that doesn’t mean the album tails off. Think of them instead as the vital tracks that set the tone from that point onwards.

After that, songs such as ‘Turn The Key’ and ‘Little League’ do a lovely job of maintaining the easy tone.
